Southeast University (SEU), founded in 1902, is one of the oldest higher education institutes in China. SEU is situated in Nanjing, capital of Jiangsu province in southeastern part of China. More than 1/3 of the world’s top 500 multinational corporations have their branches in Jiangsu province. For the past 5 continuous years, Jiangsu has ranked the 1st in Chinese provinces in absorbing the foreign investment. Nanjing is a beautiful modern city with a long history. A short trip by air may lead you to other big cities of China. It only takes you two hours from Nanjing to Shanghai by train. Within the city you may choose to travel by bus, taxi, subway or bicycle. It was made as capital in ten dynasties. The ancient wall of Nanjing, built in 1360’s, is the best-maintained ancient wall in the world. In spring you may celebrate the Plum Blossom Festival in Ming Xiaoling Mausoleum, built in the Ming Dynasty, about 500 years ago. In summer you may taste local grapes as well as Chinese rural scenery in Jiangxin Island or walk around the Qinhuai Lake near Confucius Temple. In autumn, you may enjoy the scenery decorated by red leaves in the Purple Mountain or overlook the whole city from Zifeng Tower with 450 meters high. In winter, you may hear the rings from the Qixia Temple greeting the new year.

SEU is a key university directly under the administration of MOE (Ministry of Education, China). It is a research-oriented comprehensive institution with 3 national key labs, 26 ministerial key labs, 2 national engineering research centers and 10 ministerial engineering research centers. SEU takes the leading position in the higher institutions’ disciplines assessment by MOE，with biomedical engineering as the 1st, transportation engineering as the 2nd, architecture and art as the 3rd and civil engineering as the 5th. SEU has the authority to confer degrees at all levels, including Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD, as well as honorary degrees. SEU at present offers over 75 undergraduate, 209 postgraduate and 96 PhD programs. SEU has three main campuses, covering the total area of 447 hectares. About 16, 000 full-time undergraduate students and 13,000 full-time postgraduate students are studying here.

SEU attaches great importance to international cooperation & exchanges. Agreements of cooperation have been signed with more than 100 universities, research institutes or corporations in foreign countries. SEU began to accept foreign students in 1950’s. Currently 1200 international students from 106 countries are studying at SEU. Besides all Chinese-instructed programs, foreign students can take Chinese classes at various levels, participate in tour study programs, or choose English-taught programs, including, Medicine and International Business. SEU is authorized to accept the students sponsored by Chinese Government Scholarship and Jasmine Scholarship of Jiangsu Province. Besides, excellent foreign students will be awarded SEU President Scholarship.
